Washington Running Club will be re-starting official adult club sessions from Thursday 20th August 2020 under revised procedures in accordance with England Athletics guidelines. This will be the first official club session since 22nd March, when lockdown measures were introduced, and is limited to existing members only.
The club have worked hard to put in place controls and procedures to make our re-start as safe as we can, and have consulted and had approval from Biddick Academy to use their car park as a meeting place again.
The club will be meeting in four separate groups, each in its own corner of the car park, with a maximum group size of 20 (including two run leaders), which is well within England Athletics guidelines on numbers. Each runner will verify their ability to attend each session by confirming with the club in advance via a health questionnaire, which is used for track and trace procedures in line with government guidelines. Nobody can just turn up and run.
Groups will observe social distancing guidelines, and each group will run their own route or session away from others.
It’s been a long time coming and has involved some thought and planning, and it’s different from how we’ve ran in the past, but the time is right for the club to start meeting again.
At this time we’re not accepting new members, we’re waiting until we’re a bit more established, and we’ve not considered running a couch to 5K programme in the current restrictions, it’s probably not feasible. Our junior club remains on hold in an official capacity at this time as well.
Hope the above gives a bit of background to the club if you see our runners out and about on Thursday nights and Sunday mornings.
